Like many small businesses or soloprenuers, photographers often find themselves burdened with a variety of mundane tasks that take up time that could be better spent on activities that help grow the photography business or make more revenue.
What sorts of things? Figuring out travel plans. Checking on the parking situation at that new event venue. Resolving a billing issue with a vendor. These things need to get done, but they’re not enjoyable and don’t contribute to your core business.
If you had an assistant on the payroll, you could totally delegate this stuff.
But you probably don’t have an assistant. Employees can be expensive. And it’s probably not even bringing on a part time contractor for a small number of tasks.
Enter Fancy Hands.
I’ve been using their service for a bit over a year now. You pay a monthly subscription fee, and in exchange they’ll perform a certain number of tasks. Unused tasks roll over to the next month. You submit work for them via their website or your phone, and they take care of the tasks and let you know of the results. I’ve used Fancy Hands for tasks including:
- researching ground transportation options/costs when visiting a new city
- calling a camera company repeatedly to keep them on top of a priority repair
- doing research on competitors’ websites about services and prices
- call several vendors to compare prices and bundles on some photo gear I was considering
- making dinner reservations
- transcribing key points out of a video or online presentation
- resolving a ticketing issue with an airline
We’ve all had that dreaded forever-on-hold experience, only to deal with an unhelpful representative. This is a way to free up your time and lower your stress. I appreciate how I can send a quick message with my task and later I get an email with the results. Fancy Hands has never failed me, always doing what was needed in a timely manner. Their staff is entirely US-based and communications have always been easy to understand.
